The Barbara Wade Remekie Scholarship Fund was established to benefit children with financial challenges who reside in the rural community of Hamwalk, St. Catherine, Jamaica

Hamwalk, St. Catherine, Jamaica, the same community in which Barbara Wade Remekie was born and raised is a community where most of the children are unable to attend high school because their parents cannot afford the tuition, bus fare, books, and clothing.

This Scholarship Fund will provide scholarships to the financially impoverished children who are academically gifted to assist with their tuition etc. This will allow them to obtain higher education and realize their dreams.

This scholarship fund will not just help one child but will uplift an entire community because each child who receives a scholarship will be able to follow in Barbara’s footsteps and pay it forward by uplifting someone else.

An outstanding educator in St. Mary, St. Thomas and St. Catherine where she was instrumental in the lives of hundreds of children.

Barbara Elaine Wade Remekie entered eternal life on Saturday, October 19, 2019. A God-fearing Christian, and scholar, she was a champion of hope for those who needed support.  Barbara was born on May 31, 1934, to Gladys and Jacob in Hamwalk, St. Catherine, Jamaica.

Known affectionately as Sister Wade to many and Cutie to her peers and elders, she was an outstanding scholar in her community of Hamwalk.  Passing her first, second and third-year exams early, she was accepted to the prestigious Mico Teacher’s College, now Mico University in Kingston, Jamaica. There she excelled and graduated with honors making her the first in her family and community to graduate from college in 1963.

Barbara was loved and revered by both family and friends. She made everyone proud by her accomplishments and the dignity with which she lived her life. Furthermore, she held a special place in everyone’s heart due to her kindness and devotion to her family, friends, and acquaintances.  Most importantly, she loved the Lord and had a powerful, healthy, and longstanding relationship with him. Barbara served as a member of the choir in all churches she attended.   In addition, she was an outstanding educator in St. Mary, St. Thomas, and St. Catherine where she was instrumental in the lives of hundreds of children.

A legacy remembered...

Junie’s Story...

Sister Wade took me in at a time when I had a great need and she treated me as if I were her own child. In her care, I felt loved and respected.  Her care for me was extended even when she lived abroad. She communicated with me in writing and when she sent dresses for her daughter, I would receive an equal number.  We kept in touch throughout the years and to her, I feel a deep sense of gratitude. I will miss her smile and her infectious laughter but I know that she is now present with the Lord.

A song for a queen...
